String Challenge

Wednesday, May 1, 2019
Started my string piecing challenge for Modern Quilt Guild. The background has huge blue background strings. Orange flowers appliqué on top.
Idea from the book Quilts on Safari by Jenny Williamson and Pat Parker.
More specifically, the suggestion was from the quilt Leap Year in the Lowveld by Pat Parker and Jenny Williamson.

Showed my unfinished string flower piece at the Modern Quilt Guild meeting at Four Winds Quilting.

Sometime in May, I did finish this little quilt.

Snake River Log Cabin

I have had the pieces cut and a few blocks created for Snake River Log Cabin for a long time.  It all started when my friend, Melissa, saw the quilt pattern in Judy Martin's book.  Melissa said she wanted to make this quilt.  We cut out the pieces and organized them nicely as instructed in silver ware trays.  Then, I put mine pieces in a paper box and left them there for years.

Thinking I was organized enough to finish this quilt for the Big Sky Quilt Show in March 2019 in Billings, MT, I opened the box.  Although I had the top completed, I did not have Snake River Log Cabin quilted in time.  I think I finished this quilt in May 2019.  It still does need to have a hanging sleeve applied so I can enter it in the next guild show that comes along.

Wool batting makes it fluffy and pliable.  I really like Snake River Log Cabin.

2019 Hearts

Every Valentine's Day, I have been trying to make a little heart themed quilt for the boys.  Even though I had a lot to do in preparation for Big Sky Quilt Show in 2019, I decided to make the mini quilts anyway.  I did them on the longarm machine thinking it would be fast.  Cutting out all of the small hearts to cover the background was not a fast process.

I still do not believe these were done in time for Valentine's Day (since I started them February 3).  But it was close.

Woodland Creatures

The Town and Country Quilt Guild of Joliet, MT is creating Woodland Creatures as their raffle quilt for the 2020 show.  Many people, including me, were to create a block or a row for the quilt.  We were to hand applique (raw edge) the row.

I was starting to trace the pieces one social Tuesday at Trackside Quilting.  Sue Hanson had done Woodland Creatures as their block of the month program the previous year.  She had a kit leftover so she let me have that kit for my row.

I turned my row in at the Town and Country Quilt Guild meeting on May 9, 2019.

Friendship 2017

I participate in a Friendship Block Exchange organized by Sue Wheeler.  In 2017, we created whatever blocks we wanted.

It took me a long time to decide how I wanted to finish my 2017 Friendship quilt.  I was fortunate enough to get to go on a bus tour to Missouri Star Quilt Company in Hamilton, MO through Trackside Quilting.  While I was shopping there, I found what I thought was the perfect batik.  I loved the orange.  So I used a lot of my perfect fabric :-D

Finished April 25, 2018.

This quilt won the first place People's Choice ribbon in the Quilt Among Friends category at the Town and Country Quilt Guild show in June 2018 in Red Lodge, MT.

This quilt was also shown in the March 2019 Big Sky Quilt Show in Billings, MT.  It didn't ribbon in the Quilt Among Friends category.

Easter

Dillon noticed that we did not have any Easter quilts.  I intended to create these Easter eggs in time for the Easter in question but of course they were not done in time.  I think I finished them the week after Easter in 2018.

Saturday Sampler

In 2018, I participated in the Saturday Sampler through Trackside Quilting in Laurel.  We received a pattern each month.  We were to create a block according to the pattern.  Then, we took our block to the store in anticipation of receiving another person's rendition of the block.  If we brought in January, we received someone else's January block back.  But if we skipped February, we did not receive someone else's February back.  We only received as many blocks back as we entered.  I did end up creating all 12 of the blocks through Saturday Sampler.

On a Saturday in May 2019, we were to have a reveal party/potluck at Trackside.  I thought the party was to be at 1:00 PM.  The other ladies thought the party was at 10:00 AM.  So, I missed the other quilts revealed.

Finished May 18, 2019.
