YVQG Exchanges

Yellowstone Valley Quilt Guild decided to do both a Row by Row & Round Robin exchange for 2014.  I opted to participate in both.  We were tasked to turn in our exchanges at the July meeting.

I created the paper pieced bees for the border for Pam P.'s Beekeeper round robin.

The bee pattern is from the Over by the Pond pattern from The Quiltmaker Pattern collection.

Garden row for Linda O.

The frog and dragonflies are paper pieced patterns from the Over by the Pond pattern from The Quiltmaker Pattern Collection.

I picked up the Over by the Pond pattern at one of the vendor booths at HMQS in Salt Lake City, UT in May.

Wall Hanging

My sister, Kyla, did one of her pharmaceutical rotations in Billings at Riverstone Health.  The final assignment was a reflection project of her time at Riverstone Health.  Kyla decided to create a wall hanging.  Kyla did all of the work.  I just watched.  Kyla did a great job!

I was showing Kyla fabric that she could use for her project.  Keegan has just received fabric from Brooke A.  Keegan was helping select fabric and he was suggesting fabric that Kyla could use from his stash.  He told Kyla that she could use some of his fabric because he wouldn't be able to use it all.  It was really sweet.  The orange stripe fabric is from Keegan's stash.

Modern Blocks

Modern blocks for exchange at Four Winds Quilting:

Jody S. had us create a house block for her exchange request.

Brianna S. requested Stargazing designed by Angela Pingel from the Modern Blocks compiled by Susanne Woods book.

Cheryl W. requested On the Fence designed by Weeks Ringle & Bill Kerr from the Modern Blocks compiled by Susanne Woods book.

Dog Beds

I finished two more dog beds in July.  I spent a lot of time cleaning up the scraps that I have been receiving for a group of ladies in Laurel.  This could have almost been my item for the 100 items challenge for July.

Blogger Universe

I signed up for a new group at Four Winds Quilting.  It is a group that is to be using solids.  We are supposed to be using at least 50 percent solids in our blocks.  It does not appear that this is what is going on though in the group.  Some of the people are not requesting any solids in their blocks.  Since it is an exchange, they can request anything they would like.

We are to be using either free patterns from the internet or blocks from the Modern Quilts from the Blogging Universe by Martingale Press.

Everything's Coming Up Rainbows from the Modern Quilts from the Blogging Universe book.  Designed by Krista Fleckenstein.

Classic Rolling Stone block from the internet.

Starflower from Modern Quilts from the Blogging Universe book.  Designed by Angela Nash.

Roz D. asked for the Little Square, Big Square block designed by Kim Schaefer from the Modern Blocks compiled by Susanne Woods book.

Cosmetic Bag - #27 July

DeAnne M. from the Sew N Sew group presented a class on creating the cosmetic bag in February.  All I needed to do to finish my cosmetic bag was finish the interior corners.  I just finished it in July even though I have been using the bag since the first evening I created it.

Father's Day Gift - #26 June

I created the following wall hanging for Dale for Father's Day.  I did not have it completed for Father's Day this year but I did have it completed for the memory quilt challenge for the Town & Country quilt guild in Joliet in July.

I printed the pictures using a laser printer on fabric.  This is the first time I have printed on fabric.  I will have to do more tests on printing with a laser printer to see how it stands up and if it is possible to wash the printed fabric.

I had Keegan & Dillon draw with markers on little pieces of fabric.  Keegan did a really great job.  He wrote his name and the date.  Keegan also drew pictures like a tree.  Dillon had colored greeting cards before I presented him with the fabric so Dillon did not do much coloring on fabric.

Dillon & Keegan painted on canvas with acrylic paint.  A few days later, I helped them put their footprints and handprints on the painted canvas.

Part of the Town & Country guild's memory quilt challenge was to have embellishments on the item.  I did not know what the guild was using as their definition of embellishment so I also used yarn to create a heart on the lower right corner.  I used the quilting machine to sew the yarn heart on the wall hanging.

Dale has this wall hanging at work.

Among the Pines

To help Sue at Trackside Quilting, I am working on some of the Among the Pines embroidery block of the month projects.  I finished this one in July.

The original pattern suggests using dark green for all of the lines in the embroidery.  Sue thought it would be better if we used different colors for each section.
