Thing 1 & Thing 2

We decided on the theme of Thing 1 & Thing 2 for the boys' birthday party for 2013.  When I first went looking for Dr. Seuss fabric, I could not find anything.  I decided to make up my own Thing 1 & Thing 2.

Thing 1 is for Keegan.  When I was drawing the "Things" on paper, Keegan selected the cartwheeling Thing as him.  It was pretty funny when Keegan was attempting to be in the same position with his limbs as his Thing 1 quilt.

I tried to do modern quilting on the quilt.  I have straight lines coming out of the blue hair.  I also did some pebble quilting in the body of the quilt.

Dillon is Thing 2.  Dillon doesn't really care about his quilt.  Dillon just rolls around on any fabric that is on the ground.  Dale & I tried to jump up in the air like Thing 2.  It hurt.  I guess we are just too old to jump like that.

I quilted intensely in various sized circles on Thing 2.  I really like the way it turned out.

Nancy Sasse of Four Winds Quilting hosted a modern quilt show at Grace Methodist Church November 2.  It was a non-judged show.  It was a just for the fun of it show.  The hangers of the show decided that since my quilts were so similar that they would hang on the same hanging frame.  I can see where they are coming from although it made me sad.  Of course, I wanted my quilts to show well.

These quilts were not finished in April for the birthday party.  Since I had been working on them for a while, I thought for sure they would have been one of my monthly 100 items.  Since they were finished in October and the Sunflower quilt was more quirky, these did not make the list.  I am still happy with these quilts.

Thing 1 & Thing 2 are just under 60" x 60".  I used scraps on the back.  The backs are wild.  I would have thought that I wouldn't have any fabric left that I have identified as backing fabric.  I still have a drawer left.  It is amazing how much fabric I really have!
